  • The American Mathematics Competition(AMC_10 & AMC-12)--a national math contest
  • 6 Illinois Mathematics League Contests (IML)--a state contest
  • An Archdiocesan math contest sponsored by the Mathematics Teachers Association

Book Club: From Oprah's Book Club to Chicago's One City, One Book, to small gatherings in living rooms, book clubs are everywhere!  If you like to read and like to share books with friends, St. Benedict's has it's very own book club.  We will be reading just for fun - no pressure and no grades!  Members will choose all books we read.  Moderator:  Ms. Brada. We meet in the Library on the first Wednesday of the month during lunch. So bring your lunch and join us!

The Peer Ministry group is open to all levels of students who want to minister to their peers throughout the school year.  Peer ministers are responsible for taking on leadership roles during school liturgies and prayer services, and for coordinating and leading charity drives throughout the school.  Ms. Hempstead is the moderator for this club.

The Drama Club is made up of students interested in all aspects of the performing arts.  This includes dramatic performance, comedy, improv, and even behind the scenes work.  Students meet twice a month to assist in ongoing plays, play theater games, and create mini-performances.  The club meets every 2nd and 4th Monday at 3:00 in room 323.

The Creative Writing Club provides students with the opportunity to develop their writing and editing skills.  The students meet on a weekly basis to work on skills related to creative writing.  Some topics for the club include an opportunity to write their own fiction, poetry, and drama.   Creative Writing Club allows students to edit their own work and the work of their fellow students.   Each year students participate in the St. Benedict's annual "Arts Fest", with the final culmination of an Anthology of student work at years end.  Mr. Chmielewski is the moderator for this club. The club is named in honor of Gary Kaplan, a former instructor at St. Benedict High School, who passed away due to cancer.

Students participating in Channel One learn to operate the cameras and technical equipment needed to broadcast the daily announcements through the fifty televisions in our building.  Mr. McTigue is the moderator for Channel One who is often included in daily broadcasts, telling us the day's weather forecast, as well as a prize worthy trivia question.  Students also learn the communication skills used in broadcasting over television.

Student Council consists of elected Executive Board members as well as Class Officers from each grade level.   Student Council Representatives give feedback about major activities which includes Pep Rallies, Homecoming, Spirit Week, School Dances, Activity Nights, Movie Nights, and much more.

Campus Ministry has long been an important component of our school community. It is my hope that you will visit us often and that through your visits you might gain a greater knowledge of and insight into our mission and ministry at St. Benedict High School. Moderator: Ms. Kristen Hempstead.

St. Benedict High School is a Catholic institution of the Archdiocese of Chicago dedicated to the education and faith development of youth.  The Administration, faculty, staff, and students proclaim the Gospel of Christ and strive to live as Christ would.  We are committed to teaching students to give service to the family, school, and larger community.

The Campus Ministry Department  recognizes that spiritual development and accompaniment is important for our young men and women as they grow and learn in an academic environment. To this end, Campus Ministry provides a variety of opportunities for faith development and expression, such as Masses and Prayer Services, Class Masses, Reconciliation Services, Retreats, and Service Trips.
