RETREATS
Each year, there is a retreat for each grade level. These retreats are comprehensive in nature, and one builds upon the next.
KAIROS
For many students, the retreat of the Senior year is KAIROS. This is an intensive retreat held at the Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center in Romeoville. Students choose to participate and spend four days away from school to live in "God's time," which is the meaning of the word "Kairos."
In the course of 3 full days, 8 student leaders and 4 adult leaders present a series of talks about the Christian lifestyle. The retreatants spend time reflecting privately on the talks and in the context of small groups, discussing the speeches among themselves to see how the talks call them to a deeper relationship with their brothers and sisters, and ultimately with God, through Jesus Christ.
There are a few other special touches added as surprises, which contribute to the mystery and joy of the retreat. God always finds ways to surprise us, and KAIROS adds a few such surprises for the students - surprises that they will talk about for the rest of their lives.
At St. Ben's, this retreat is a voluntary retreat held once a year. From this retreat, student leaders are selected for the retreat the following year.
